Bosson, Kessler Share MVP Honors
The Claremont High School baseball program celebrated its 2008 season Thursday at the Doubletree Inn in Claremont, with players from all three CHS teams earning recognition.
Senior pitcher Kevin Bosson and junior outfielder/catcher David Kessler were named co-players of the year for the Wolfpack varsity. Both earned first-team All-Baseline League honors, and Bosson was selected to play in the annual Inland Valley Daily Bulletin All-Star Game June 12 at the Epicenter in Rancho Cucamonga.
Junior Matt Anderson was named Best Offensive Player for the varsity squad, while senior outfielder Greg Vogel was the team's Gold Glove recipient. Most Improved went to freshman infielder Manny Argomaniz, Most Inspirational was senior pitcher Anthony Cerafice, and the Coaches' Award went to junior outfielder Ryan Troli.
Cerafice and Anderson earned second team All-Baseline League laurels, while Troli and Argomaniz were both named honorable mention All-Baseline League.
Coach Mike Lee's varsity team
finished tied for third place in the Baseline League and barely missed
qualifying for the CIF-Southern Section playoffs.
The junior varsity team honored sophomore Woody Cash and Trent Woodward as Co-Offensive Players of the Year. Woodward also won the team's Defensive Player of the Year award. Sophomore Jake Hellein was named Pitcher of the Year, while junior Mark Landgreen and James Brooks won Most Improved and Most Inspirational, respectively.
On the freshman level, Grant Melker and Victor Munoz shared the team's Player of the Year honors. Sam Robinson was voted Best Offensive Player, and Daniel Kessler was Pitcher of the Year. The Gold Glove went to Tyler Mitchell, while T.C. Laszlo won Most Inspirational and Dustin Keller earned the Utility Award.
The JV team, under the leadership of coach Bob Smith, captured first place in the Baseline League, and the freshman team, coached by Mike Correa, also won the league championship.
